The Dutch gulder was the currency used by the Netherlands until 2002 when they switched to the Euro. Today, only the Netherlands Antillean guilder is still used in Curaçao and Saint Maarten, which varies from the Dutch guilder. Here are our top 3 banknotes from this region: The Netherlands Antillean10 guilder features a kolibrie, or hummingbird, on the obverse and on the reverse is the official seal of the Netherlands Antillean Central Bank. The discontinued 10 gulden is from 1968 and has the portrait of the famous Dutch painter Frans Hals. On the reverse is an intricate hollow disc design. Last, we have a purely geometric design on the obverse of the 100 gulden banknote. On the reverse, the geometric patterns continue with a small owl design for the banknote’s watermark next to a leaf.
